Qualitas Q.E.D. comes with its own Uninstall program for the unlikely possibility that you would need to remove Qualitas Q.E.D. from your system. Use Start, then Programs to get to the uninstall icon in Windows 95. It is located in the Qualitas Q.E.D. Program Group in Windows 3.1x. It is important that you use the Q.E.D. Uninstall program to remove Q.E.D. DO NOT RUN THIRD PARTY UNINSTALL PROGRAMS. These programs may not correctly rename the common dialog DLLs. This can result in program failures in Windows.
Run the Uninstall program by choosing Uninstall Q.E.D. from Qualitas Q.E.D. in the Windows 95 Start>Programs menu or by clicking on the Uninstall Q.E.D. icon in the Qualitas Q.E.D. Program group in Windows 3.1x. Uninstall removes the Qualitas Q.E.D. program from Windows and the files from your hard drive. If you are using the Traynote feature of Qualitas Q.E.D., Uninstall asks if you want to remove Traynote as well. If you choose to keep the Traynote feature, the QED directory is not removed from your hard drive.
If you have already used something other than Q.E.D.'s uninstall to remove the program, you can still get your system back to normal working order by restoring the files that Q.E.D. replaces. These files, COMMDLG.DLL and COMDLG32.DLL, are stored in your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. Windows version 3.1x uses only the COMMDLG.DLL.
Q.E.D. keeps backup copies of the DLLs in the QED directory under the file name with a numbered extension starting with 000. If you have deleted the QED directory, retrieve the backup files from your recycle bin. The backups are numbered sequentially with the most recent file having the highest number. COMMDLG.000 is the backup file for COMMDLG.DLL and COMDLG32.000 is the backup file for COMDLG32.DLL. Copy the backup file to the file of the appropriate name in your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory (see below). Restart your system in MS-DOS mode before trying to copy files since these files are likely to be in use while you are in Windows.
Windows keeps backup files of its own and you should be sure that you restore these files as well. It stores selected backup files in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SYSBCKUP directory (this is a hidden directory) and in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VMM32 directory. Again copy the backup file to the file of the appropriate name in each of these directories. Use the example above to copy the files adjusting the path as needed.
After copying the backup files to the appropriate directories, delete the COMMDLQ.DLL AND COMDLQ32.DLL files that Q.E.D. places in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. Restart your system and Windows should run as expected.
