BETHESDA, MD -- March 25, 1996 -- Qualitas, Inc. is releasing an update to Qualitas MAX 8, the complete memory and Windows resource manager for Windows 95, Windows 3.1x and DOS. Version 8.01 incorporates the award-winning features of Qualitas's BlueMAX product to provide a single memory management solution for all environments.
Qualitas MAX 8.01 offers both traditional memory management and new management techniques specific to Windows. While many of the new "RAM doubling" packages claim to open more Windows through RAM compression, Qualitas MAX 8 takes a simpler approach. "Products using compression techniques may allow users to open larger applications," said Bob Smith, co-founder of Qualitas, Inc., "however, they do nothing to help open more applications at once. Only a product like Qualitas MAX 8.01 using DOS resource management can help."
New to Qualitas MAX 8.01 is BIOS Compression support for PS/2 Micro Channel machines. This support was previously exclusive to Qualitas's BlueMAX product. Now users with IBM PS/2 Micro Channel machines can get up to 88 KB additional high DOS memory for loading resident software. Now owners of all types of machine architectures--from Pentium PCIs with new Plug 'n Play support to EISAs, 486s, 386s and Micro Channel--can solve all their Windows and DOS memory needs with one product, Qualitas MAX 8.
The decision to consolidate the BlueMAX and Qualitas MAX 8 products was an easy one. "We offer a total memory solution with Qualitas MAX 8. To emphasize this solution, BlueMAX features have been added to Qualitas MAX 8," stated Mary Stanley, President of Qualitas. "Not only does this make it easier for home and corporate users to pick the appropriate product, but folks needing BIOS Compression support get a real bargain since BlueMAX previously retailed at a higher price than Qualitas MAX 8."
Also included in the Qualitas MAX 8.01 update are maintenance changes and support for the Windows 95 DOSSTART structure. Windows 95 loads a file called DOSSTART.BAT when entering MS-DOS mode. Qualitas's Maximize program will offer to optimize this batch file as well as system start up files to provide the maximum possible memory inside DOS windows.
The package is available through retail outlets, mail order and directly from Qualitas. The 8.01 update will be available on Qualitas's on-line services and free updates are available on-line. Owners of previous versions of 386MAX or BlueMAX may purchase an update to Qualitas MAX 8 directly from Qualitas for $39.95.
Qualitas, Inc. was founded in 1983 and develops, markets and supports Qualitas MAX, 386MAX and BlueMAX, memory managers for 386, 486 and Pentium-based systems; and RAMexam, the Qualitas memory tester. Qualitas products are available from Merisel and Ingram Micro in the United States and from distributors throughout the world. The company can be reached via e-mail at .
